Disneyland - 1957 (sound added).

Some great vintage views in this video.

Restroom building on Tom Sawyer Island, Disneyland - 1980’s.

Pretty sure the structure is still there, maybe, but you’ll have to hold it till you get back to the mainland if you need to use the facilities these days.

I had this postcard as a kid, and was endlessly equal parts fascinated/freaked out by the Cave on Tom Sawyer’s Island: very vivid memories of the dark curving passages and the wooden signs explaining the stalactites, and of course, the ‘bottomless’ pit with the wind howling sound effect and description of the wandering ghost of Injun Joe himself, lost forever in the darkness….

I wish it could still be like it was back then, without all the noisy pirate clutter.

Disneyland Hotel - Dancing Waters show.

Before World of Color, you could watch this for free at the Disneyland Hotel!

When I arrived at the park as a kid with the family, in the days before annual passes/evening entrance being something that occurred, we’d go walk around the Hotel and the waterfalls, then watch this.

“From a friend’s personal Viewmaster disk comes this awesome photo of a sultry hula dancer from the Tahitian Terrace. Wowee-wow!”

Taken in August of 1961.

This was taken the year I was born (1982), and I remember quite clearly visiting Disneyland when the area around the park was like this.

We stayed at the Magic Lamp hotel (a shithole even in the late 80’s), or sometimes the Disneyland campground around back of the park with the family tent trailer.

Disneyland Hotel, 1966. Anyone else fancy a drink at the Monorail Room, then riding back to the park in good old Monorail Blue to ride the Submarines…?

Aerial photo of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland. This is prior to construction of the Big Thunder Ranch and Festival Arena, which would take up the cleared/partly grassy space at the back left of photo.

The three ‘isolated’ rock structures across the path from Big Thunder are remnants of the Nature’s Wonderland ride’s Living Desert area, and are still in the park to this day, though more greenery grown around up around them and fencing added.

Disneyland - 1985

Seriously. Just walk away, as quietly and slowly as possible.

I don’t even know why this is happening. State Fair promotion, maybe? And why the horrible plastic expressionless mask on red hat clown?

Actually, it’s probably best we don’t know why in this case.
