Surfacing Spaceship Earth: Geosphere by the Numbers
Early 1982 and Spaceship Earth is receiving it’s iconic skin. The geosphere, designed, in part by WED and Buckminster Fuller, stands at 180 feet tall, has an outside surface of 150,000 square feet, and is covered by 11,324 alucobond facets, on 964 triangular tiles. Each tile is individually formed to meet Spaceship Earth’s spherical hull.
