EPCOT Center Advertisements: A reflection of progress in Central Florida (1981-1982)
Seeing that EPCOT Center was the largest private construction venture launched at the time, the cost was subjugated and funded, in part, by various companies who also had their hands in the thematic content also presented, and with their corporate aims in mind.
Sperry, of course was no different, and showed off their lofty underpinnings in a series of print ads. With grand and sweeping rhetoric, conceptualized the EPCOT ideal of being a showplace for ideas and a center for “information transfer” as robustly stated by Card Walker in his 1978 EPCOT film.
Later, of course, they would also show off their actual exhibit in CommuniCore, SMRT-1, the iconic figure of, perhaps the whole pavilion, and now, one of the more fondly remembered vestiges of EPCOT Center’s astute, but playful, showmanship.
